BYU softball shared a special moment during a Big 12 Conference game against Arizona State, where a pair of seniors took to the field to absorb their final moments as college athletes, despite being out with injuries.
Seniors Kaysen Korth from Bluffdale, Utah, and Jaelynn Lambert from Temecula, California, took the field -- or the mound in Korth's case -- for a previously agreed-upon moment to recognize the careers and efforts of these two BYU softball stars.
Korth, a pitcher, loaded up and tossed the first pitch of the game, which the ASU batter graciously watched pass by. Lambert, who was standing in the outfield during that pitch, joined with the rest of the Cougars' softball team to celebrate their careers, their efforts, and to say one final goodbye to the sport they love at the college level.
Holding back tears and sharing a team embrace, BYU softball was all smiles at the beginning of this otherwise unremarkable game of college softball.

What a special moment for Kaysen Korth and Jaelynn Lambert 👏 pic.twitter.com/GtiseDogSF
Some things are bigger than baseball, and I don't just mean the size of a softball.
While a few comments had me chuckling as they described how they'd buck the circumstance and take the errant pitch over the outfield wall, the gesture from BYU toward the program's injured seniors was one that touched the hearts of the nation.
It's unsurprising that this moment went viral on social media.
Retiring from softball, but not without one final moment to say their farewells, Korth and Lambert wave goodbye to the game they love, the game that got them through college, and look ahead to the future.
The BYU softball team did not have a good season, finishing 18-33 on the year, and 7-17 in conference play. But for senior day, the sting of defeat in a 3-11 rout was satiated by the joy of that brief moment out on the field.
