BYU basketball is back on track with a dominant win over Queens University on Wednesday. In a matchup the Cougars controlled from the opening score, the Royals never really stood a chance.

Some were concerned about BYU's team cohesion after a close call with UC Riverside in which the Cougars only won by six points at home. Especially when Egor Demin was off the floor, the offense lacked a flow, and the team seemed generally lost without their Russian Moses to part the Red Sea of defense before them.

"It's a work in progress," Coach Kevin Young said of his still-meshing roster, "Everyone has a clear role. The guys are doing a great job at trying to be a star in their role... It's a work in progress."

But in a game like this, where the Cougars' NBA prospects Demin and Catchings didn't need to see many minutes, the reserves stepped up and showed out for the third win of the Kevin Young era, as BYU picked apart Queens to the tune of 99-55.

Dawson Baker came alive in this one, dropping a team-high 22 points off the bench by scorching the nets on 6-7 shooting beyond the arc. Egor scored 12 points to pair with 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals on the night, and Trevin Knell got involved by shooting 66% from deep.

Defensively, Queens couldn't get anything going against a tough Cougar defense led by Keba Keita and his 13 rebounds. Rim protection and perimeter defense alike were clicking tonight, and BYU has plenty to be proud of in their third game of the season.

It wasn't a perfect night for the Cougs, but every win is important for a first-time head coach like Coach Young. These things take time, and patience is crucial for the development of a young squad like this BYU bunch.
