Dominique Diomande became the third BYU basketball player to enter the transfer portal. A player added to bolster the Cougars' depth, the Frenchman had an intriguing, yet ultimately underwhelming year in Provo despite a slew of injuries eventually offering him more opportunity.

Dominique Diomande will forever be one of the great "what-if" players of the 2025-26 BYU basketball season. A player who spent most of the year glued to the courtside pine, Diomande transferred to Provo as an intriguing, hyper-athletic wing from Washington who had played professional ball overseas prior to hitting college hoops.
But that potential and athleticism didn't convey into meaningful minutes until near the end of the season, and it took a tidal wave of bad injury luck to wash out several key rotational players for Kevin Young to call Diomande's number.
But in the Big 12 Tournament, Diomande was an absolute revelation. Hustle plays to fill the Richie Saunders void, and firework slam dunks that illuminated the postseason greater than its LED court. It was too little, too late for Diomande with BYU basketball, it seems. If Kevin Young and his staff have learned anything from the truthfully disappointing '25-'26 campaign, it's that you can't simply build a champion around one player -- even a player as fantastic as AJ Dybantsa. That mentality will likely take shape in the form of greater complementary talent surrounding BYU's stars, and Diomande could find himself riding the bench for another season if BYU's recruiting efforts are successful.
