What's most significant about Anderson's decision to depart the Green Bay Packers after a solid three-year run with the organization is that his Packers ties remain in force. By signing with Miami he is following Jeff Hafley from the Packers to the Dolphins where Hafley was recently hired as Miami's new head coach. Hafley was Anderson's defensive coordinator in Green Bay, where Anderson played safety, so it looks like Hafley deliberately poached the former BYU star as the new head coach builds his roster.
Zayne Anderson's NFL journey
Before turning pro, Zayne Anderson had a solid career at BYU. He played over six seasons from 2015-2020 appearing in 50 games with 162 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and three interceptions. After finishing his days in Provo he went undrafted in 2021.
Zayne joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 as an undrafted rookie free agent, putting him at the bottom of the barrel of the NFL universe. Most UDFAs are just extra bodies to help teams make it through training camp and the preseason. Very few of them make it in the league. Zayne Anderson is one of these exceptions.
As a rookie in 2021 he made the Chiefs roster and appeared in four games playing 62 special teams snaps with one tackle. In 2022 he appeared in three games with 48 special teams snaps and didn't record any stats.
In 2023 he joined the Green Bay Packers for what would be a solid three-year stretch. Over three seasons in Green Bay he appeared in 40 games including two starts at safety. He registered 35 tackles, two fumble recoveries, two passes defended, and one interception during his time with the Pack.

The logical conclusion for new Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley going out of his way to take Zayne Anderson from Green Bay to Miami is to use him. At minimum he will be an impact special teams player and provide solid depth at safety.
It has been a good five-year run in the NFL so far for Mr. Anderson.
He should be able to build on that in 2026 in a very good situation in Miami.
