BYU had a lot of players who contributed to last year's success. Offense, defense, and special teams were all on fire, and the Cougars had a wonderful 11-2 season. Four key players will be crucial to the success in 2025. It was hard to pick just four, but I feel like these are the players who BYU needs this year.

Will Ferrin

Will Ferrin was crucial to BYU's success last year. He made 24 of 27 field goals, including the game-winner against rival Utah. His kicking was a big part of BYU's offense, and his longest was from 54 yards against Colorado, which gave the Cougars an extra boost en route to a big win.

Jake Retzlaff

Jake Retzlaff was quite reliable last year, orchestrating a few game-winning drives. When he got hot, BYU was able to put big numbers on the board. He was able to run, pass, and keep plays alive, even under big pressure. He threw for 2,947 yards. His longest pass was against UCF, a big play in a big win.

LJ Martin

LJ Martin

LJ Martin had a great sophomore season. He ran for 718 yards and seven touchdowns. He didn't turn the ball over, and he was almost impossible to stop. His 39-yard run against Utah was key to the miraculous comeback. Martin is a physcial runner and is hard to bring down.

Jack Kelly

Jack Kelly was a beast at linebacker. He often assisted Tyler Batty in sacks and tackles for loss. The Weber State transfer had five sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception. His energy was infectious, and he never gave up on plays. From snap to whistle, he was aggressive and fought hard. BYU will need that energy and fight in 2025.

BYU had a strong team last year. It will take another group effort this year, and these four players will be crucial. BYU has a lot of promise this year, and it will be exciting to see how it plays out. In this NIL era, players can leave as they wish. It is nice to have at least four who will be sticking around. This season will be exciting, and I can't wait. Go Cougars!
