The transfer portal swings both ways. While BYU benefitted from this year's new crop of transfers in the Portland State blowout - QB Bear Bachmeier, DT Keanu Tanuvasa, TE Carsen Ryan, OT Andrew Gentry, etc. - the Cougars also lost some talent in this past transfer cycle.
Here's a quick look at how some of the key talent that left Provo for other opportunities performed for their new teams.
Miles Davis, RB, Utah State
The versatile running back hit the ground running (pun intended) with the Aggies. In his first game with his new team, he led the team in both rushing and receiving. In a Utah State win, he had 88 yards on 12 carries (7.3 YPC) with a touchdown while hauling in six receptions for 61 yards.
In five seasons with BYU, Davis played in 27 games with 90 carries for 468 yards (5.2 YPC) and two scores, plus 22 receptions for 192 yards and another touchdown. It's good to see him ending his college career with a bang in Logan.
David Latu, DL, Boise State
Latu registered one tackle in Boise State's crushing 34-7 loss at South Florida. In 2023 at BYU he had six tackles in 12 games, but last year he appeared in just two games with no tackles.
Keelan Marion, WR, Miami
Marion registered three receptions for 29 yards while returning one kick for 32 yards as No. 10 Miami beat No. 6 Notre Dame on national television. Marion more than held his own in a top-10 matchup and is a big loss for the BYU Cougars this year. In two seasons in Provo, he had 44 receptions for 562 yards and a touchdown,

Aisea Moa, LB, Michigan State
In his debut with the Spartans, Moa recorded one tackle in Michigan State's 23-6 win over Western Michigan. In three previous seasons at BYU, he appeared in 17 games for the Cougars with 17 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Jake Retzlaff, QB, Tulane
Though technically not a transfer since he withdrew from BYU instead of facing a suspension and enrolled at Tulane, he's still a former Cougar. After leading BYU to an 11-2 record last year, Retzlaff had a spectacular debut with the Green Wave.
In a 23-3 win over Northwestern, Retzlaff went 18-of-31 passing for 152 yards and a touchdown. But where he really shone was with his legs, rushing for 113 yards on 10 carries, including an electric 69-yard touchdown.
Jake Retzlaff is gone! Monster 69-yard TD run for Tulane!

Harrison Taggart, LB, Cal
Taggart recorded two tackles in a 34-15 win over Oregon State. He was one of the more surprising transfers after registering 69 tackles in Jay Hill's defense last year and should play a big role with the Bears this year.
Crew Wakley, S, Purdue
Debuting for Purdue, Wakley racked up three tackles in the Boilermakers 31-0 win over Ball State. Wakley faced stiff competition in a massively talented and deep BYU safeties room and opted to transfer for a clearer path to playing time, and it looks like he found it.
In two years with BYU he appeared in 23 games with an impressive 103 tackles.
