BYU football is, once again, back in action this weekend with an extra day of prep time thanks to a General Conference-induced Friday kickoff last week against West Virginia. This time, however, Kalani Sitake leads his team into the desert as this Saturday's action against the Arizona Wildcats will be hosted in Tucson.
This will be the Cougars' third road game in the last four appearances, and a serious test for freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier. Number 47 has been steady, calm, and shockingly poised from the BYU backfield this season, even on the road. Will Arizona provide a theater more hostile than that of East Carolina? Likely, yes. More than Colorado? To be determined. All the same, every game becomes the most important game of the season when the loss column stands at zero.
For Arizona, a strong start to the season has begun to wobble after a massive loss in Ames to Matt Campbell and Iowa State. But following a resilient bounce-back win against the floundering Oklahoma State program (to the gorgeous tune of 41-13), Noah Fifita has himself a dangerous team even without Tetairoa McMillan.
Don't expect a replay of last year's contest. That was a different Arizona team. This is a different BYU team. On the road in this one, BYU's unbeaten record is in jeopardy, and Ken Jennings is not eligible to help out the Cougars in this one (I already asked). Still, it's a given that you'll be tuning in, so how about I just share the information that we're both dying to know.
Here's everything you need to watch BYU's meeting with Arizona this weekend.
