There are about a billion and one reasons to tune in for BYU basketball at Kansas this Saturday, not the least of which is the collegiate clash of the top two players in the 2025 recruiting class, AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson. The debate between number one and number two is a topic still hotly discussed with the NBA Draft looming in the Summer, but with so much at stake for both programs, the eyes of the nation will fall upon Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence.
The 13th-ranked Cougars (17-3, 5-2 Big 12) and the 14th-ranked Jayhawks (15-5, 5-2 Big 12) will square off in the game of the weekend, and this is coming off a gut-wrenching three-point home loss to top-ranked and unbeaten Arizona in Provo for Kevin Young and the Cougars. Kansas, on the other hand, has struggled to find much consistency in Big 12 play.
A dominant home win against the then 2nd-ranked Iowa State Cyclones raised plenty of eyebrows, and likely saved Kansas from banishment after losing to West Virginia and UCF prior to their upset victory. Both teams enter the phog with a tremendous amount to prove this Saturday.
But, if we're being entirely transparent, the spotlight will be on the matchup of Dybantsa and Peterson. Most mock drafts list Peterson as the sure-fire number one selection, with Dybantsa not far behind at two (or three at worst). ESPN, the host of this meeting, has Peterson and Dybantsa sitting one-two.

The last time these two squared off, the duo combined for 107 points in high school, essentially confirming that the race for the top spot was a two-man contest. At the Big 12 level, however, the result on the scoreboard will come down to supporting casts.
