Hey, College Football Playoff selection committee, I have a proposition for you. With the college football season winding down and difficult decisions left to be made, this week's basketball slate may actually be the perfect opportunity to settle some disputes on football's side of things.
May I direct your attention to BYU vs Miami on Thanksgiving? The two teams are currently 11th and 13th in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings, sandwiching the 12th-ranked Utes in an at-large tug-of-war with just one week of football left to play. On the football field, the Cougars and Hurricanes don't have the benefit of a head-to-head result to settle the argument (though head-to-head hasn't exactly worked out in Miami's favor when it matters, I suppose). On the basketball court, however, these two programs are set to square off.
At the ESPN Events Invitational this Thanksgiving weekend, the 9th-ranked Cougars and the 5-1 Hurricanes will do battle. BYU, in this case, has the clearly stronger program at this current moment, riding the momentum of a dominating win against top-25 Wisconsin. That wave of momentum will carry the Cougs all the way to this neutral-site Feast Week tournament, where the 'Brig Three' of AJ Dybantsa, Richie Saunders, and Rob Wright will get to put their talents on display.
