There are many reasons to be happy about a week 3 bye. Sure, it's a week off of football for your favorite team just as the ball gets rolling, but on the other hand, it means you'll be seeing plenty of uninterrupted football from that point out. For BYU football, the joy ride keeps rolling as the unbeaten 4-0 Cougars will host the Mountaineers of West Virginia on Friday night.
West Virginia is 0-2 in Big 12 play, and has taken a step back as a program under a new regime and total factory reset with Rich Rodriguez reprising his role as head coach.
Kalani Sitake's BYU squad is undefeated on the year, and fresh off a road win in Boulder. For a Cougar team that hasn't played in Provo for over three weeks, this return to LaVell Edwards Stadium will be a welcome one for players and fans alike.
For BYU football, the team seemingly hasn't skipped a beat from last season's 11-2 masterpiece of a breakout year. No, not even with a true freshman quarterback shouldering the load. Bear Bachmeier has been the picture of steadiness, tossing 10 scores to go without any interceptions thrown as a Cougar, Aaron Roderick couldn't ask for much more out of his signal caller, regardless of his school year.
LJ Martin and the run game has been dominant. Jay Hill's defense -- led by Isaiah Glasker and Jack Kelly -- is striking existential dread in the heart of every squad unfortunate enough to square up against them. For a West Virginia team coming off a home embarrassment against Utah (embarrassment is putting it nicely when the final score was 48-14), it could be another long week.
So, obviously, you'll want to watch.
