Jake Retzlaff is still technically in the BYU football program.
After a chaotic offseason saga that saw accusations, denials, admissions, and suspensions, the dust is finally beginning to settle over Provo, Utah. Here's what we know at the moment.
Retzlaff has admitted to the accused sexual encounter, in direct violation of the BYU honor code, while denying the sexual assault allegations. The civil case against Retzlaff has been dismissed. Still, such a violation of the university's strict code of conduct won't be brushed under the rug; he received a 7-game suspension for the upcoming season.
Not wanting to wait out the first half of his final collegiate season, Retzlaff elected to enter the transfer portal and find a new program before the start of the season.
Fascinatingly, however, he still has yet to enter the portal. He's still with the team, at least on an official basis.
As of Sunday morning, BYU QB Jake Retzlaff has yet to officially enter the transfer portal. The continued expectation is he will enter, sources tell @On3sports.

Per On3's Pete Nakos, the expected transfer prospect's options are to secure a waiver, join a new program as a walk-on, or enter the portal as a designated student-athlete.
While the details of entering the transfer portal and finding a new home for one more season of football are more complex under the surface than they may appear to external observers, the point must be made that Retzlaff's decision to enter the portal is his own. BYU is not pushing him out of the door.
Still, the hold-up on his next move is a fascinating development, especially as reports suggested Retzlaff had already found his next team and could announce said squad as soon as Wednesday, July 2nd.
Here we are, nearly a week later, awaiting the next chapter in the BY-Jew's ironically unorthodox collegiate path. From Junior College to a power conference membership with the BYU Cougars, he's still expected to enter the transfer portal for one more run through the 12-game gauntlet. No matter the decision, we wish Jake success in his next stop. He delivered heart-stopping victories and all-time moments during his time in the backfield.
