Can you remember when BYU basketball offering the nation's best basketball players was a pipe dream potent enough to flag the honor code office? Well, Kevin Young and his staff have already sent an offer to the top prospect in the 2027 class, and no one batted an eye. Welcome to the new era of BYU hoops.
Baba Oladotun, a 6-foot-9 small forward out of Maryland, has put the basketball world on notice with his pure, natural talent.
"He fits the prototype of everything you'd want in a high-level wing on the next level," beamed 247 Sports basketball director Eric Bossi. "He has range to the 3-point line, he can put the ball on the floor, and he can create at the rim. [...] From a scouting standpoint, he has everything you would ever want to see out of an elite wing."
It's no wonder Head Coach Kevin Young jumped on the phone the very moment Oladotun's recruitment became available. June 15th was the first day that coaches could directly contact players in the 2027 class, and BYU sent the call at midnight.
An offer was delivered immediately thereafter.

Oladotun's connection to BYU is minimal, and in another age his likelihood of committing to the program would have been less than zero. A mathematical impossibility, yes, but before the KYU regime, how many elite prospects without a tie to the school's sponsor religion would be interested in lacing up in Provo, Utah?
Now, BYU basketball is a preseason top-10 team, and a serious threat to breach the Final Four of the upcoming tournament behind a core of AJ Dybantsa, Rob Wright, Richie Saunders, and a supporting cast unlike anything ever assembled in the program's history.
If the Cougars can reach the promised land of the Final Four -- that is to exceed the potential stuffed within their roster -- why wouldn't players like Oladotun want to follow the likes of AJ Dybantsa and join this BYU basketball side?
