The Big 12 tournament is set to begin this week. The first game, between 13 seed Cincinnati and 12 seed Oklahoma state, will tip off at 10:30 AM MST. The entire tournament will be played at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
BYU will be a spectator for the first few days of the tournament, as its play to finish the season earned the team a double-bye. BYU will be 4 seed in the tournament. The way this tournament is structured awards the top four teams with an automatic quarterfinals appearance. The other three are Houston, Texas Tech, and Arizona, respectively. Take a look at the official bracket here.
BYU was the 5 seed in the Big 12 Tournament last season, and it defeated the 12 seed UCF before falling to the 4 seed Texas Tech in the quarterfinals.
This season, the Cougars hope to carry their end of season momentum into the tournament. Barring a major upset, they will have a rematch of their double overtime thriller against 5 seed Iowa State. A repeat of the 4-5 seeds in the quarterfinals should prove to be an incredibly entertaining game, especially considering what is on the line for both teams with the NCAA Tournament seeding selections coming this Sunday.
BYU is currently projected by Joe Lunardi as a 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but an impressive performance in the Big 12 tourney could solidify that standing, or bump them up even more. Iowa State is currently projected to be a 3 seed.
You can catch the Cougars in action on Thursday, March 13th at 10:30 MST on ESPN or ESPN2.
