"He's gonna go number one," said Sean Farnham on BYU Sports Nation following the NBA Draft Lottery results. "I think he's separated himself [from the rest of the class]."

With the NBA Draft Lottery officially in the books, the selection order has been established. Washington, owners of the worst record in the NBA -- the pinnacle of pathetic -- won the first-overall pick. The first time the top spot has gone to the worst team since the league flattened the odds in 2019, the Wizards are far from your average bottom-tier basketball franchise.

Next season will bring the debut of veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis sharing a basketball floor as teammates. Along with Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bub Carrington, Tre Johnson, and more fascinating youngsters in the nation's capital, AJ Dybantsa could find success much earlier than most number-one picks do in his NBA timeline, should the Wizards pick him with the top spot.

Sean Farnham, and much of the NBA community seems convinced that the former BYU star Dybantsa is the play with the number-one selection.

"I spent some time with him, and there was an interview on NBA Today with him and his dad that I reported in Los Angeles. I was privy to his workout schedule. I watched in the gym, and seeing his development, his continued improvement from beyond the arc, his skill set, his size, his handles of the basketball, make him an elite-level talent."

"That 'it' factor; he has that drive. You guys saw it all the time at BYU. Go back to when Richie [Saunders] went down with the injury. Look at his numbers over the last 10 games; he averaged almost 29 points per game, almost 8 rebounds per game. He upped his game to another level ... including dropping 35, the most ever for a player in his tournament debut."

There's a contingent of Darryn Peterson supporters, however, who seem confident that Peterson would be a better pick at the top of the order. In almost a 1A and 1B situation, Dybantsa remains the preferred choice of most NBA executives and fans alike, despite the acknowledgement that Peterson could just as well turn out to be the best player in the draft class.

The Wizards don't want to show their hand too early, going on record earlier today to state there is no "clear-cut" number-one pick in this class. And if the Wizards see things that way, who knows what they'll do with the top pick.
