This NFL team has been "in touch" with former BYU star Brady Christensen and would be smart to sign him

Brady Christensen ruptured his Achilles in Week 8 last season and continues with his recovery. While still a free agent, one NFL team is emerging as a potential home for the former third round pick.

Brady Christensen was a consensus first-team All-American back in 2020 with the BYU Cougars. As a standout left tackle in Provo, he was a third-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2021. His career with the Panthers got off to a promising start by appearing in 16 games with six starts as a rookie, then starting all 17 games in 2022.

That kicked off a successful five-year career with the Carolina Panthers to this point where the athletic, versatile Christensen has quite literally played every position on the offensive line. While the Panthers as an organization have been through near constant changes in the front office and to the coaching staff over the last five years, Brady Christensen has been a consistent fixture.

Brady Christensen's unfortunate 2025 campaign

Last year was both interesting and unfortunate for the now 29-year-old.

After finishing his 2024 season, his fourth with the Panthers, Christensen became a free agent as his rookie contract expired. Carolina's newest coaching staff had moved Christensen to interior offensive line, playing primarily guard with some center mixed in as well. Going into 2025 the Panthers were already set at guard with two high-priced free agents in Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis.

It seemed like Christensen would take his talents elsewhere last year and fight for a starting spot and a multi-year deal, but instead he decided to sign a one-year extension with the Panthers for $2.8 million.

And it looked like his decision to remain in Carolina was going to pay off. After playing limited special teams snaps in the team's first three games, he got the call to fill in for an injured Robert Hunt during Week 4. He went on to start the next four games for the Panthers until rupturing his Achilles in Week 8 and missing the rest of the season.

Brady is still a free agent today as he rehabs post surgery, looking to join an NFL team this year and resuming his promising career.

Will Brady Christensen re-join the Panthers?

Some good news emerged this week indicating a reunion with the Panthers could be possible sometime down the road.

Panthers beat reporter Sheena Quick recently posted this tidbit to X:

Now, saying the Panthers have "kept in touch" with Christensen doesn't necessarily mean they're going to rush out and re-sign him. It's pretty natural the team would remain in contact with a solid player like him who has already spent five years with the organization and still has close ties to the front office, coaching staff, and players.

And we don't fully know what "kept in touch" even means. Is it one text? Did he drop by the facilities for an informal conversation? Did they hire a pilot to outline the terms of a potential contract via skywriting?

That we don't know. But we do know Panthers fans would like for the team to bring him back. In the comments section of Sheena Quick's post some of the comments include, "I'd like Brady back...would be great OL depth" and "No brainer, sign him."

My personal investment in this story is that I write about both BYU (here at Lawless Republic) and the Carolina Panthers (via Cat Scratch Reader). I live in North Carolina and am a Panthers fan. I've watched just about every one of Brady Christensen's professional snaps, and think re-signing with Carolina at some point this season would be in the best interest of both parties.

The Panthers need versatile offensive line depth.

Brady Christensen needs a team.

Getting back together makes perfect sense as soon as the former BYU star shows he's healthy enough to compete.
