BYU fans have been pretty spoiled when it comes to quarterbacks. From the near-Heisman numbers that Zach Wilson put up in the Covid-altered 2020 season, to Jaren Hall's 2 years of excellence that led him to be drafted by the Vikings, we may not have realized how good we had it until a mediocre season from Kedon Slovis and Jake Retzlaff caused Cougar Nation to go on red alert. Without a clear starter in line for the 2024 season, many fans are left to wonder what's next for the Cougars.

This article is about a quarterback in the class of 2025, so I guess this article won't answer that question. But it's still important to figure out the future of your team. This March, BYU will be taking an unofficial visit from a highly sought after quarterback.

Luke Carney, a 3-star QB recruit from Dallas Christian High School in Texas, has made plans to take an unofficial visit to BYU per 247 Sports.

"My visit is March 4-5, I will be watching pad practice, visiting with the coaches, and touring the football facilities," Carney told Cougar Sports Insider. "I have heard the game day atmosphere and fans are electric. Also, I am familiar with the storied football tradition of BYU. It would be an honor to play at what many consider “Quarterback University” and follow in the footsteps of signal callers like Ty Detmer, Jim McMahon, and Steve Young."

Carney is a duel-threat QB who passed for 3723 yards and 38 touchdowns last season. He also ran in 9 scores on 843 ground yards. He's reported offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Boston College, Memphis, Syracuse, Cal, Georgia Tech, and Louisville among others. Many people believe that Carney's rating will rise quickly over the next year, so getting a chance to make a case for Provo is a great opportunity for BYU.

The Cougars still have a lot of work to do on their 2025 class, but a quarterback of Carney's caliber would be a major pickup for a team that is still trying to find some security from that position.
