Just when you thought BYU basketball had finally settled down for the offseason, Kevin Young's crew added another international prospect with NBA aspirations.
Mihailo Boskovic is a 6-foot-10 forward from Serbia who will bring tons of value to an already-loaded BYU squad. He's been playing professional hoops internationally for several years and is currently 22 years old. After earning MVP honors for the U20 FIBA World Championships in 2022, Boskovic set his sights on an NBA debut but withdrew from the 2023 draft after working out for the Sacramento Kings.
Joining the Cougars will be his next stop on his professional journey, and as such he isn't joining the Cougars as a benchwarmer--Mihailo is ready to contribute right now. He does everything you want in a modern big man: dribble, space the floor, defend, protect the rim, and he'll even tuck you in at night if you ask politely (though I can't verify that last one at this time).
He'll compete with Rutgers transfer Mawot Mag for minutes at power forward, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Mihailo spend plenty of time on the court for Young's team--he's not putting his professional career on hold to warm the bench, after all.
Boskovic is a serious contributor for this team and will keep his sights set on an NBA berth, whether after this season or beyond. With his addition to the depth chart, the Cougars add a floor-spacing, high-flying forward who will stuff the stat sheet with his offensive skill set, and is yet another arrow in Coach Young's quiver.
Mihailo is also a team player. It wasn't long after his commitment was announced that he was already posting ads for the Royal Blue NIL Collective on his X account (where his body language makes me worry he may have been held against his will to record that video. Blink twice if you need help, Mihailo!)
He's on his way to Provo, Utah right now and will look to hit the ground running with his new squad as soon as possible. An unexpected addition for sure, but Boskovic is a Serbian surprise who will bring a fun brand of basketball to the Marriott Center this season.
Kevin Young, how do you do it?
