The recruiting train has no brakes for Kevin Young and the rest of his BYU basketball staff, and recent reports indicate that the newest player to catch the Cougars' eye is 2027 guard Marquis Newson.

Newson is a highly athletic guard standing at 6-foot-5 and 175 pounds. Playing for the Academy of the New Church located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania makes the one they call "Quis" something of a Bryn Mawr All-Star (I apologize for what may be the most obscure reference ever mentioned in a basketball write-up).

Marquis currently holds offers from Virginia Tech and Arizona State, despite currently being listed as a "0-star" recruit by 247 Sports. Why all the interest? This kid has fantastic upside as a two way floor-runner who thrives on taking the ball to the hoop and finishing around or over contact.

With a slippery handle and length that could make the Slender Man blush, Newson thrives on beating his defender off the dribble or simply outrunning the defense in transition. He constantly looks in control of the game and keeps to his own pace. Though he loves to fly down the floor when he sees an opening, his speed is very deceptive--it looks like he's jogging out there.

Happy to live above the rim and mindful of what angles to take when finishing a layup through traffic, Marquis is a high-upside hooper who could have pro upside if he develops his skill set properly.

With recent reports that BYU is "in" on Newson, don't be surprised when this spindly guard starts to accumulate more attention from some of the biggest names in college basketball--he'll be rising quickly.
