BYU Players in the NFL Week 3 - Kyle Van Noy is a sack machine
By D.A. Sweat
Here’s the Week 3 summary of former BYU Cougars in the NFL. Power Rankings only reflect each player’s 2024 season-long performance without factoring in previous seasons.
No. 1 - Fred Warner, LB, San Francisco 49ers
Stats: 4 tackles, 1 pass defended
The 49ers lost a bad game to the banged-up Los Angeles Rams and Warner had a quiet game by his elite standards. This was the first game this year where Fred seemingly didn’t have a momentum-shifting play like a forced fumble or a sack.
No. 2 - Kyle Van Noy, LB, Baltimore Ravens
Stats: 2 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass defended
KVN has now racked up two sacks in each of his last two games. After a career-high 9.5 sacks last year, Van Noy just keeps getting better with age with four sacks and five tackles for loss in three games this year.
No. 3 - Ryan Rehkow, P, Cincinnati Bengals
Stats: No punts
Even though the rookie didn't punt once on Monday night, his 59.3 yards per punt leads the NFL by over six yards per attempt.
No. 4 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Stats: 7 rushes, 32 yards
The frustration continues with Allgeier getting a criminally low number of touches. Starting running back Bijan Robinson had 16 carries for 31 yards, or less than two yards per carry in this one. Give Tyler the stinkin’ ball!
No. 5 - Jamaal Williams, RB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: 1 rush, -1 yards; 1 reception, 0 yards; 10 offensive snaps, 7 special teams snaps
While Jamaal ran the ball well in garbage time in the Saints first two games, there was no garbage time in New Orleans’ Week 3 loss. As a result, Williams had two touches for negative one yard while Alvin Kamara had 26 rushing attempts.
No. 6 - Khyiris Tonga, DL, Arizona Cardinals
Stats: 4 tackles; 14 defensive snaps
What a great game for Khyiris Tonga! Backup defensive tackles rarely rack up four tackles in limited snaps (14), but that’s exactly what Tonga did against the Detroit Lions. The fourth-year pro continues to carve out a nice NFL career.
No. 7 - Michael Davis, CB, Washington Commanders
Stats: No stats
Despite the Commanders corners getting repeatedly torched by the Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers (Joe Burrow threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns), Davis continues to watch Washington's games largely from the sidelines.
No. 8 - Zayne Anderson, S, Green Bay Packers
Stats: No stats, 19 special teams snaps
Zayne continues to be a special teams mainstay with the Packers.
No. 9 - Kingsley Suamataia, OT, Kansas City Chiefs
Stats: 2 offensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps
After struggling in his first two starts, Kingsley is entrenched on the bench and played just a couple of snaps in a jumbo package. Dang. BYU fans had such high hopes for Kingsley’s rookie season.
No. 10 - Brady Christensen, OL, Carolina Panthers
Stats: 7 offensive snaps, 6 special teams snaps
The Panthers benched Bryce Young, started Andy Dalton, and obliterated the Las Vegas Raiders. Brady played an offensive series near the end of the game during garbage time along with a handful of special teams snaps.
No. 11 - Chris Brooks, RB, Green Bay Packers
Stats: 3 rushes, 3 yards; 4 offensive snaps, 3 special teams snaps
Brooks was called up from the practice squad to the active roster this week and carried the ball three times for three yards. It’s great to see him back on an active roster after rushing for 106 yards as a rookie last year with the Miami Dolphins.
