Here’s the Week 4 summary of former BYU Cougars in the NFL. Power Rankings reflect this season's overall performance.
No. 1 - Fred Warner, LB, San Francisco 49ers
Stats: 7 tackles, 1 pick-six, 1 pass defended
Fred Warner racked up seven tackles and an incredible pick-six this week. That’s the good news. The bad news is he only played 28 snaps after suffering an ankle injury. Fingers crossed the injury isn’t significant and Fred can continue his remarkable season that could potentially earn him the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year.
No. 2 - Kyle Van Noy, LB, Baltimore Ravens
Stats: 2 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 QB hits, 1 forced fumble
Can I get an amen for Kyle Van Noy!? He has registered two sacks in each of his last three games. On Sunday night against the Bills he was a menace, sacking Josh Allen twice including a strip-sack on a trick play. His six sacks rank second in the NFL. KVN’s on pace for a Pro Bowl selection.
No. 3 - Ryan Rehkow, P, Cincinnati Bengals
Stats: 3 punts, 56.7 yard average, 2 inside 20 yard line, 63-yard long
Rehkow has been a rookie revelation for the Bengals. His 58.4 yards per punt leads the NFL. I live in North Carolina and saw Rehkow’s game this week against the Panthers and caught this nice screengrab with the TV announcer’s effusive praise:
No. 4 - Taysom Hill, TE/HB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: 6 rushes, 24 yards, 2 TDs
The good news is Taysom was back after missing last week due to a chest injury. New Orleans continues to line him up as a traditional running back and he delivered two touchdowns. But - dang it! - he then suffered a rib injury that wasn’t related to his previous chest issue and we can only hope it isn’t serious.
No. 5 - Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Stats: 8 rushes, 60 yards; 2 receptions, 20 yards
Hmmm…starter Bijan Robinson has 55 carries for 224 yards, or 4.1 yards per carry on the season. Tyler Allgeier has 27 carries for 166 yards, or 6.1 YPC. Both are good backs, but Allgeier needs 10-12 touches per game, not the 6-7 totes the Falcons have given him thus far.
No. 6 - Jamaal Williams, RB, New Orleans Saints
Stats: 3 rushes, 11 yards; 2 receptions, 8 yards; 2 kick returns, 58 yards
Jamaal continues to get limited reps on offense and has yet to make a real impact for the Saints. It’s nice to see him also returning kicks and he could produce there.
No. 7 - Michael Davis, CB, Washington Commanders
Stats: 1 tackle, 11 special teams snaps
While BYU fans were hopeful that Davis would carve out a regular role in the Commanders secondary, he was only used on special teams in Week 4. On the season he has only played 23 defensive snaps in addition to his special teams contributions.
No. 8 - Zayne Anderson, S, Green Bay Packers
Stats: 1 tackle, 17 special teams snaps
Zayne continues to produce as a mainstay on the Packers special teams. He knows his role and does it well.
No. 9 - Kingsley Suamataia, OT, Kansas City Chiefs
Stats: 4 special teams snaps
The rookie continues to contribute on special teams as he adapts to life in the NFL.
No. 10 - Brady Christensen, OL, Carolina Panthers
Stats: 3 offensive snaps; 4 special teams snaps
Week 4 brought a major concern for Brady Christensen’s prospects this year. Starting right guard Damien Lewis was out with an injury and instead of inserting Christensen back into the starting lineup, the Panthers went with Chandler Zavala, a player who has been downright bad in Carolina. As a Panthers fan, I’m shocked they went with Zavala over Christensen against the Bengals. That doesn’t bode well for Brady.
No. 11 - Chris Brooks, RB, Green Bay Packers
Stats: 6 special teams snaps
After getting three carries last week, Brooks was relegated to special teams duty this week.
Did Not Play:
Blake Freeland, OT, Indianapolis Colts
Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams (IR)
Sione Takitaki, LB, New England Patriots (PUP list)
Khyiris Tonga, DT, Arizona Cardinals (Injured)
Zach Wilson, QB, Denver Broncos (Inactive)
On Practice Squads:
Kedon Slovis, QB, Houston Texans
Max Tooley, LB, Minnesota Vikings
Jaren Hall, QB, Seattle Seahawks
