Likely Wins

First of all, a guaranteed win doesn't exist in football. If it did, that would take all the fun out of the sport. Though we may look at the game against Southern Illinois and think that the Cougs will cruise to an easy win, I'm sure that other schools look at their matchup against the Cougars as a predetermined W, too. Yet, we still tune into every game knowing that whatever happens on the field could shock the nation. That being said, the following games should be BYU wins.

  • Home - Southern Illinois: SIU is an FCS school and essentially a scheduled win. While not impossible, an FBS loss to an FCS school is rare, especially for a school in a power conference.
  • Away - Southern Methodist: SMU will be a new member of the ACC and had a great season last year, finishing in the top 25. SMU beat up on weaker AAC competition but lost both Power 5 contests against TCU and Boston College.
  • Away - Wyoming: Though playing the game in Laramie does concern me (Wyoming went 7-0 last season at home), BYU should pick up a win here. They'll need to be careful, though, as Wyoming stunned Texas Tech in Laramie early last season.
  • Away - Baylor: The Bears haven't been the same team since losing to BYU in Provo 2 years ago. A team that was considered to be top-10 dropped to a 6-win team in 2022 and a 3-win team last season. While BYU will also struggle, I expect BYU to win in Waco.
  • Away - Arizona State: The former member of the Pac-12 (may it rest in peace) has also struggled to find success recently, going 3-9 last season. The Sun Devils hope to find a new identity in its new conference, but it may be a few years before they become a winning team again.
