There would be no slow start for BYU basketball in their second game of the season, and first "official" home game against the reigning Summit League champs, Kevin Young's squad followed up on a grinding opening 20 against Ohio State with a free-flowing and flame-throwing first half in the Marriott Center, the Omaha Mavericks a victim of BYU's offense at full strength.

The 25th-ranked Cougars scored a grand total of 108 in front of their home crowd, pushing their advantage to 41 points and emptying the bench with around 5 minutes left in the game. An unsurprising, yet encouraging, appearance for a BYU basketball team with high expectations.

This win pushes BYU basketball to a 2-0 record, lining up their next home game against Queens on Tuesday.

Takeaways from BYU basketball's 108-67 win vs. Omaha

BYU's offense is well-balanced, well-oiled

The reason last season's team struggled to play to their potential was a lack of balance on the offensive end. Having a player as talented as AJ Dybantsa is one thing, but last yera's team was far too depenedent on their best players to put the ball through the basket.

This year's team is much more well-balanced, with talent and reliable production spanning the entire starting lineup and even bleeding into the bench. 6 players scored 10 points or more in this one, including every member of the starting lineup.

Robert Wright III added onto his amazing start against the Buckeyes with a high-efficiency 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the field.

Chandler, Branch, and Betsey all got involved for 18, 17, and 18 points a piece, each scoring over 50% from the field.

It's an offense that shares the ball freely, constantly making the extra pass to any of the plentiful shooters on the roster. Shooting 46% from three-point land isn't a sustainable number for the entire season, but the sheer quantity of exceptional shooters on this roster will make the Cougars hard to stop.

Cougars are playing like a top-25 team

Good teams win. Great teams win big against inferior teams. BYU has outscored their opponents 168-113 in their last three quarters.

High-powered offense is Kevin Young's style, and he's put together a team that should combine for one of the best units in the country if these early returns are to be trusted. They'll have plenty of easy games ahead to refine their approach and stretch themselves defensively -- we already saw some positive returns from a full-court press in this one. Staying healthy and sharp for the

Tyler Betsey is a weapon

6-8 from 3, 4-5 against Ohio State, Tyler Betsey is shooting a scorching 76.9% on high volume through his first two games and validating BYU's belief in him after transferring three times in three years.

Betsey had been hyped up all offseason as the best shooter on the roster and he's validated that early. He shot 44% on his three-pointers during conference play last season at Syracuse. If he can continue to connect above the 40% clip, he's just another factor Big 12 defenses will have to account for, taking pressure off of Wright, Chandler, and Branch.
