According to multiple reports, BYU basketball is currently hosting Caleb Ourigou, a four-star center from the class of 2027 who's currently considering reclassifying to the class of 2026. For a BYU basketball program whose hunt for a high-upside center has been largely fruitless up until this point, news of another potential big could be monumental for Kevin Young's program.
According to multiple reports, Caleb is on a visit to BYU today.

News that a player is "considering reclassifying" typically means that a player will be reclassifying up a grade level, and BYU basketball throws its hat into the ring among giants like Dan Hurley at UConn and John Calipari at Arkansas. While still baffling to see the Cougars routinely standing among the biggest and baddest recruiting forces in college basketball year after year, the 2026 class has not been kind to Kevin Young and company after suffering miss after miss while aiming to fill the 5 spot.
And with little noise perpetuating from initial reports that the Cougars were in the process of enrolling 7'5" Chinese giant Xu Xin, the impatient followers of BYU's offseason seismograph will sit with their own legs bouncing to uncover something -- anything -- that resembles action on the recruiting frontier.
But if the Cougars can secure the reclassifying Ourigou, the agony of a frustrating, drawn-out offseason can be soothed for the moment.
BYU basketball is in the hunt for 6'10" center Caleb Ourigou
Caleb Ourigou is a 6'10" forward/center out of Woodmere, New York, and a product of Overtime Elite, a semi-professional league that serves as an alternative to the traditional high school route. Notable players like Amen and Ausaur Thompson, Robert Dillingham, and former BYU basketball recruit Kanon Catchings, who is currently playing with the Georgia Bulldogs.
A high-flyer who likes to live above the rim, but boasts an incredibly powerful frame for his age, Ourigou's well-practiced footwork and ambidextrous finishing ability make him a fascinating proposition at the collegiate level.
Ourigou is the 8th-rated center in his class and the 55th-ranked prospect overall in the class of 2026, per 247 Sports. BYU competes for his commitment against offers from Alabama, Arkansas, UConn, Baylor, Kentucky, Michigan, St. John's, UCLA, Maryland, and more. That's stiff competition for a player who may jump ahead and play as early as this year. I expect interest to maintain despite his likely reclassification.
