Sebastian Rancik, yet another power forward, is taking a visit to BYU basketball

BYU basketball might just load up on power forwards this season.

You know the old saying: you can never have too many power forwards! I don't know if anyone has ever said this, or even thought this before, but Kevin Young and BYU basketball seem to be all-in on hunting big forwards with shooting touch

Sebastian Rancik, a 6'9" power forward out of Big 12 peer Colorado, is taking an official visit to Kevin Young's BYU basketball program alongside other trips to Florida State and Kentucky, per On3. He played great defense against AJ Dybantsa in Provo earlier this year, in the same game that the Buffs pushed to overtime when Richie Saunders went down with an ACL tear.

He's seen what the Marriott Center can do on any given night, and he'll take another trip to see the rest of the BYU basketball facilities and hear Kevin Young's recruiting pitch. Fresh off a season in which he scored 12.3 points per game, hauled in 5.6 boards, and nearly a steal and a half a block per game, Rancik is a floor-spacer at his position and an impressive rebounder for his archetype. Those are two of the qualities that Kevin Young's roster critically lacked a season ago.

Rancik is a four-star rated transfer for a reason -- he brings a lot to a basketball team.

This is why his official recruiting visit becomes fascinating for BYU basketball: after adding power forwards Jake Wahlin from Clemson and Tyler Betsey from Syracuse (Kevin Young loves the color orange, as it would turn out), another player at the same position starts to look... messy.

With Young's NBA mentality, he could be prioritizing size, athleticism, and length as he hopes to back up Bruce Branch III at the 3 with 6'8" Betsey, while 6'9" Rancik and 6'10" Wahlin make up the two-deep at the 4. In the current age of the NBA, such a lineup would make perfect sense to build around Wright, Chandler, and Branch.

But BYU is still without a starting center, and if this season's Final Four is any indicator of what works in the modern age of college basketball, the Cougars' ceiling is limited without a reliable presence down low. That has to be the top priority as we approach the final week of the transfer portal.

Regardless of Young's vision, Rancik is an excellent player and would be a fantastic addition to BYU hoops. BYU will get to make the final impression on him as the final visit after UK and FSU.
