As the resident BYU card-collecting expert on the internet, it's my duty to inform you of the outrageous demand -- and prices -- of autographed AJ Dybantsa cards that feature him wearing his Cougars uniform.

In late April, Topps released its 2025-26 Bowman basketball set that features autographed AJ Dybantsa cards in his beautiful royal blue Cougars threads. Previously, Bowman U Now had released cards with AJ in his BYU uniform, but there were essentially no autographs available. Topps also recently released the McDonalds All-American set with a good amount of AJ's autographs, but he's wearing an All-American uniform.

Card collectors and BYU fans, myself included, salivated in anticipation of the released of 2025-26 Bowman cards to get our first crack at getting our hands on an autographed card of AJ in his BYU uniform.

Supply is still pretty scarce. Demand is through the roof. As a result, prices are pretty outrageous for those who might not track such things. Check it out:

Yes, you read that correctly.

Autographed AJ Dybantsa numbered to 25 are selling somewhere between $2,000 and $2,500 each right now. A yellow Dybantsa autograph numbered to 75 recently sold for $1,000.

Now, these are some of the cream of the crop for collectors since they are both autographed and numbered, thus boosting the rarity and value of the card.

But even the non-numbered AJ autographed cards are selling for a premium. On April 29th one sold for $295 and the day before another base auto sold for $290. Everybody wants a piece of

My contribution to the skyrocketing prices

In total transparency, I've done my part to boost the price of autographed, numbered AJ Dybantsa cards. Over the last several months I've been saving my monthly "fun money" in anticipation of these cards hitting the market. I also scraped together some of the money I made flipping Collin Chandler cards for a tidy profit, which I wrote about here, and bought my own AJ card.

The cards I started following on eBay had to meet three criteria:

1. The card had to feature an AJ Dybantsa autograph.
2. The card had to be numbered to help with scarcity and long-term value.
3. The card needed to be blue in color, which collectors refer to as a "color match" with AJ's BYU colors.

And I also felt the urgency to buy one of these cards now. Feeling those "buy now!" desires as a consumer is usually a recipe for disaster, but my line of thinking is the value of AJ's cards will likely increase once he's the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NBA Draft, then take another bounce once the regular season starts and Dybantsa begins what very well could be a Cooper Flagg-like rookie season.

In the end, here's the card I purchased for $600 that matches all three of those criteria:

Now, I know some people might scoff at a grown man paying $600 for a basketball card. But it's so much more than that for me. This card is special because of the memories and emotions it evokes. Every day that I see it in my home office it will remind me of how unbelievable it was for BYU to sign a player of AJ's caliber. There are so many moments from his singular, legendary season in Provo that I won't forget. Plus, AJ jumped in with both feet and thoroughly enjoyed his BYU experience, and his presence in Provo will pay dividends for decades.

And on the financial side, some guys spend money on items like boats, sneakers, vacations, fancy cars, golf, power tools, and a host of other expensive hobbies. To each their own, but I'm wired differently, I guess. I don't have any expensive hobbies. I'm a diligent saver. I live well within my means. Splurging once a year for a $600 card is about as crazy as I get with my card collecting hobby, which makes it all the more exhilarating when I win these types of eBay auctions.

The price of AJ Dybantsa's autographed, numbered cards in his BYU uniform are going through the roof.

I'm happy I got mine when I did.
