BYU Football is three months away, and the Cougars are close to fall camp. There are a few coaches BYU fans love to hate, and we break it all down here. Whether it is a rivalry, heated history, or something that was said, things sometimes get emotional in College Football.
Of course, the Holy War has produced some crazy coaching moments, while last season had some heated moments. Football is a physical and emotional game, and sometimes coaches do or say things that are taken badly. Rivalry games are tougher on coaches because of the emotion and intensity between the two teams. Let's look at the three Big 12 coaches BYU Football fans don't like.
3. Matt Campbell
Matt Campbell is on this list because of his apparent disbelief in BYU's chances last season. He was convinced that BYU was not going to win the Big 12 over his Cyclones. In the end, Iowa State was steamrolled 45-19 in the Big 12 Championship game, so in a way, justice was served.
2. Kelly Dillingham
Kenny Dillingham is a good person at first glance, but his outburst during the 2024 meeting between Arizona State and BYU was an indication of other issues. BYU fans are now annoyed at Kenny, not just because of the loss, but the way in which Kenny lost his temper after a review decision didn't go his way near the end of the game.
1. Kyle Wittingham
This one makes the most sense. BYU and Utah have been rivals since day one. The rivalry has seen many memorable moments under Kyle, and the 2024 edition of the Holy War was no exception. After a controversial ending, Kyle Wittingham was very upset. He was not thrilled in the postgame press conference and ended up slamming a chair into the ground. The Holy War is heated and both teams have had their share of joy and disapointments.
All in all, football is a brutal and emotional game. Big hitting, Playoff hopes, trophies, and rivalries are all what make the sport worth it. Even with the excitement of the game, tempers can still flare and egos are stroked. It will be exciting to see what happens this next season.
