Three bold predictions for BYU's week one matchup with Portland State

BYU Football is less than a week away, and we have a few hot takes for the week one game against Portland State.

BYU Football is getting ever closer, and soon, fans will fill Lavell Edwards Stadium for what promises to be a thrilling game against Portland State. BYU and Portland State have met only once before, with the Cougars winning 20-6. The Cougars are heavy favorites, but that doesn't mean that there are some claims that some might consider red hot.

Of course, in a game where one side is such a heavy favorite, it is hard to find things to predict boldly, but given BYU's history of first-half struggles and the rarity of shutouts (just one since 2014), this could be a juicy bit of superheated takes. Even in a supposedly one-sided game, college football surprises us, and you never know what you will find.

BYU will shut out the Vikings

BYU has a strong defense. They are aggressive, strong, and smart. BYU's defense did lose some talent, such as Tyler Batty, to the NFL Draft, but the production is expected to remain strong. BYU led the FBS in interceptions last year and was third in overall takeaways. BYU has some strong returning talent in Jack Kelly and Harrison Taggart, and the Cougs have been improving their defense during fall camp.

BYU will reach fifty points

BYU's offense needs to figure some things out, and Portland State is the perfect team to do it against. I feel like once BYU gets the offense in gear, they could go off. Bear Bachmier has been compared to Taysom Hill and he has potential. Add LJ Martin, Isiah Glasker, and Parker Kingston's kick-returning magic, and BYU could run the score up.

Will Ferrin will hit a school record-breaking 57-yard field goal

I was watching BYU TV's BYU Sports Nation, and Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan were talking about Will Ferrin. BYU will probably try to play conservatively near the end, and Will Ferrin might be called upon. This could be a big chance for Ferrin to make his mark on BYU Football forever. I feel like he has the leg and definitely has the confidence.

BYU Football is going to be fun this year. The final countdown has begun, and preparations are being made. Cougar Nation is ready. We'll see how this goes, and there is a chance all of my predictions could come true. However, I have been wrong before, and I am ok being wrong again. This should be a fun game, and the Cougars have it all ready to go.
