Welcome to Too Optimistic Tuesday! This weekly column reminds BYU fans why they should count their many blessings and have an abundance of hope. Every season in every sport is full of both ups and downs. This column will amplify the "ups" and help fans quickly recover from the "downs". So put on your blue-tinted goggles and just enjoy your BYU fandom for a moment.
BYU is on a 16-2 hot streak
The ultimate purpose of playing football games is to win the game.
Over the last two seasons, your BYU Cougars have been among the best in the nation doing just that. After going 11-2 last year and now 5-0 to begin their 2025 campaign, Kalani Sitake's squad is on a scorching 16-2 streak over their last 18 games. When you zoom out, going back to last year the Cougars are one of the hottest teams in the country.
When the Cougars would go on streaks like this before joining the Big 12, the skeptics could always say, "Well, that's nice, but BYU hasn't beaten anybody."
But now the BYU has a seat at the Power Four table, the wins just mean more. And while the Cougars still at times fall victim to the strength of schedule doubters because they aren't playing the likes of Georgia and Ohio State every weekend, they are racking up wins at a blistering pace against established Power Four competition.
BYU's recent stretch of victories includes an 11-2 record against Power Four opponents, including three victories over teams ranked in the Top 25.

These are the "good old days!"
In the television show The Office, Andy Bernard poignantly says, "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them...Someone should write a song about that."
BYU fans, we are in the good old days right now!
Remember, the Cougars are on a 16-2 hot streak, freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier is looking like he could develop into an all-time great, defensive coordinator Jay Hill is a football wizard, Kalani Sitake is the perfect coach for BYU, and the Cougars have a Top 20 recruiting class in 2026. BYU finished last year ranked No. 13 and are firmly inside the Top 25 this season.

Now, BYU's 2025 season will largely be defined by the upcoming four-game stretch against Utah, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and TCU. But we'll let the future write itself.
For now, BYU is one of the hottest teams in the country. Not only that, the coaching staff, roster talent, recent recruiting wins, and institutional support the Cougars enjoy are positioning BYU for a future that's just as bright as its present.
If a 16-2 stretch in a Power Four conference with momentum building for a bright future isn't living in the good old days, I don't know what is.
Someone should write a song about that.
