Sure, it wasn't as upset-riddled as last week's shakeup, but week 7 provided plenty of highly entertaining football across the college football world.
Ohio State fell in their marquee matchup as a last-second mistake cost the Buckeyes one final shot against Oregon, Alabama nearly dropped their game against South Carolina which would have been a second-straight loss for the Tide, and Penn State narrowly escaped a game at USC, where the Nittany Lions had to crawl back from a major deficit to force overtime. Even 9th-ranked Ole Miss fell to LSU in the bayou in another overtime thriller.
Some additional highly entertaining matchups kept the back half of the top-25 chaotic, with K-State, Pitt, and Illinois all barely surviving with a win to maintain their position. But in a week with few upsets, could some disappointing results--even those that ended in a win--be enough to see some teams slide?
Utah and Oklahoma are dropping out of the top 25 after picking up their second losses of the season, with neither team likely to impress voters with their week 7 output.
And while Penn State and Alabama nearly lost control last week, the season is still relatively stable, despite the rocky start. As the second half of the year gets under way, we'll need to see these teams tighten up their loose screws or we may see perennial top-10 teams struggle to remain playoff-eligible.
