Kyle Van Noy is a BYU legend. Kyle Van Noy is an NFL Pro Bowler. He's also at a crossroads -- again -- in his NFL career after what could only be considered a down year in 2025.
Kyle Van Noy's 2025 season recap
Expectations were high coming into the 2025 season for the former BYU standout. After all, his first two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens coming into this year had been spectacular. In 2023, the Ravens famously signed Van Noy from "off his couch" a couple of weeks into the season after he went unsigned as a free agent. All Kyle did in 14 games last year was record 30 tackles and nine sacks.
Then last year he had the best season of his life, racking up 41 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and a Pro Bowl nod.
Entering his 2025 campaign -- and his age-34 season -- there was no indication that Van Noy would take a major step back, but that's what appears to have happened. In 15 games this year he had 20 tackles and two sacks. Those were the lowest tackles and sacks totals since 2015, his second season in the league.
The highlight of Van Noy's 2025 campaign came when he intercepted a pass, handed it off to a teammate, and led the way for a 93-yard defensive touchdown.

Now, Father Time is undefeated, but if anybody can come back strong and rebound from a down year, it's Kyle Van Noy. If you need any reminders, just go back and re-read what he did in 2023.
But next year will be a transition season in Baltimore. The team fired coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons after the Ravens failed to make the playoffs this year. On top of that, Kyle Van Noy is a free agent after this season. A new coaching staff may not want to re-sign a 35-year-old veteran coming off a down year, so if Van Noy keeps playing next year, it might be somewhere other than Baltimore.
And if he decides to call it a career, he has put up one of the most impressive NFL careers of any BYU defensive player.
Kyle Van Noy's NFL career
After earning All-American honors at BYU, Kyle was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. Situation matters for young players, and he instantly wasn't in a good situation. Despite being an electric stand-up edge rusher in college, the inept Lions moved him to strong side linebacker in a 4-3 front, nullifying his pass rush ability and forcing him to play out of position.
Needless to say, things didn't work out in Detroit. The Lions traded him to the New England Patriots during the 2016 season and once he was playing for a competent front office led by Bill Belichick, Van Noy immediately blossomed.

In five seasons with the Patriots he registered 316 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 21.5 sacks. He also won two Super Bowls in New England.
From 2020 through 2022 he bounced between starting gigs with the Miami Dolphins, then back to New England for a season, then the Miami Dolphins. He joined the Ravens in 2023 and here we are.
All told, in his glorious NFL career KVN has 561 tackles and 57 sacks. Oh, and those two Super Bowls, too.
While 2025 was a down year, Kyle Van Noy's career has been stellar. We don't know what the future holds for the BYU legend, but the past 12 years have been outstanding.
