Kyle Van Noy’s No. 3

When I was still the Sports Editor of BYU’s Daily Universe, I interviewed Kyle Van Noy just after New England’s win in Super Bowl 51. At that time, I asked him if he had any other dreams in life.

I expected him to say another Super Bowl win. Instead, he took things back to BYU football, telling me it was a goal of his to get his jersey retired.

He’s got a really strong case for that dream to become a reality.

“I hope they retire that No. 3 jersey. It was one of my goals to get my jersey retired at the college level and be one of the best to ever walk through those halls.”

Simply put, Kyle Van Noy is one of the best to ever suit up for BYU football. He was an electric game-changer and KVN forced offenses to game plan around him.

After some down years with the Detroit Lions, Van Noy has settled into a play-making role with the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.

But before being drafted, KVN wreaked havoc in Provo. From 2010-13, Van Noy collected 226 tackles, 62 tackles for a loss, 30 QB hurries, 26 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, seven interceptions and five touchdowns.

He was a three-time All Independent First Teamer (2011-13), the Independent Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and a Second Team All-American in 2013.
