4-star LDS wide receiver Blake Wong just took an official visit to BYU football

BYU football really wants this one, but his commitment won't come easy.

Four-star wide receiver and LDS recruit Blake Wong has been on BYU football's radar for a very long time now.

Finally entering the final stretch of his recruitment window, Kalani Sitake and his BYU staff have been pulling out all the stops to convince this star wideout that there's no better destination for his collegiate career than Provo, Utah.

Wong recently shared photos from his official visit to the BYU football facilities. I've got to say, he looks very natural in royal blue, but maybe I'm a touch biased.

Wong shared why BYU's interest is particularly meaningful in his recruitment.

"I am the only receiver they are even going after in the 2027 class, and that has meant a lot just knowing how highly they think of me and what I could mean for their program in the future."

Wong's ties to BYU's sponsor religion, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, make him a natural connection with the university, but his recruitment will come down to much more than spiritual identity when big names like Oregon and Ohio State are on his short list of finalists. At the time of writing this article, Wong is rated the 36th-best wide receiver in his class, per 247 Sports.

And a commitment from a player like Wong at receiver really couldn't arrive at a much better time. After losing Chase Roberts, Parker Kingston, and Cody Hagen for various reasons over the offseason, BYU's receiving corps is uncomfortably depleted.

I wrote the following on Wong when he first announced his official visit dates:

"While faith is a factor in Wong's recruiting process, at the end of the day, he'll be making a decision based on not only how he fits within a program's culture, but also how well he'll fit on the field.:

"As an elite athlete and exceptional playmaker down the field, it'll be difficult to convince Wong that BYU provides him a better opportunity than two annual inclusions in the College Football Playoff, Oregon and Ohio State."

"His ultimate goal is to play in the NFL, so Kalani Sitake will need to lean on recent success with players like Puka Nacua and Chase Roberts to convince Wong that Provo is the place to prepare him for that next step."
