What to say of wisdom?
Can it be studied, purchased, or witnessed?
Can we extract it? Multiply it? Harness its power?
Nay, for wisdom is earned, not grown.
It cannot be learned; only learned from.
It cannot be created; only discovered.
We know not from whence it came,
For not all with experience have wisdom to share.
We know not where it goes,
For even those who obtain it will one day lose it.
All we can hope is that through the wise,
Their words and actions,
We can take one step closer to the truth.
All we can hope is that through their lives,
The world can learn to understand itself.
Wisdom is not a guarantee,
It passes through like water.
But for one moment,
For one day,
If just for the month of March,
We witnessed wisdom in its purest form:
Mastery of the NCAA Tournament bracket.
It was you, Connor Dye, who read the future.
It was you, Connor Dye, who withstood the storm.
With every decision, and every click,
You saw what the plain eye could not.
And that is wisdom.
Who, but you, could have forseen VCU's first-round upset?
Who, but you, could have known UConn's road?
And though the Cougars failed to reach the peak,
You knew the path.
You showed the way.
The truly wise are so rarely appreciated in their day,
So let me say this now:
You are the Master of March,
The Baron of Brackets.
You stand alone.
You stand supreme.
And for your bravery,
For your strength,
For your unmatched wisdom,
I applaud you.
To you, Connor Dye, a bracket genius;
The Champion of March Madness.
A special thank-you to everyone who participated in the Lawless Republic March Madness Bracket Challenge!
Every eligible participant submitted a bracket to our group with one stipulation: your national champion must be BYU -- no exceptions. Though a few of our participants didn't adhere to this rule (not naming any names), our winner, Connor Dye, and his bracket, "Dybantsa Madness", picked BYU as his national champion and still won outright.
As promised, this poem has been written in your honor. Feel free to share it with your friends, estranged family, coworkers, and atop your resume.
Until next March, everyone...
