Every morning, my head pops off the pillow in excitement to talk about BYU basketball. This morning, my cup runneth over as Kevin Young and his staff will add Kenneth Davis Jr. to their ranks as the neweest member of the team.
NEWS: Southern Illinois transfer guard Kennard Davis Jr. has committed to BYU, he tells @On3sports.

Davis, a transfer out of Southern Illinois, was a highly sought after prospect when he entered his name into the portal. After a freshman season that saw him average 16.3 points while playing stellar perimeter defense, Kevin Young has another stopper in his backcourt to bolster what has already been a highly successful romp through the transfer portal.
Having officially signed Dominique Diomande, Rob Wright III, and awaiting the arrival of AJ Dybantsa and Xavion Staton, BYU basketball boasts a recruiting class beyond any reasonable expectations.
According to 247 Sports, acquiring Davis puts them over the top -- BYU basketball are now the proud owner of the second-best recruiting class in the nation.
Excuse me for a moment while I silently weep with delight.
Trailing only Big 12 rival Houston, BYU has risen to the top thanks to their two incoming 5-stars (Dybantsa and Wright), and three four-star players who will enter the program for this upcoming season.
So many player acquisitions through the portal are likely the reason why Dallin Hall and Elijah Crawford elected to search the transfer portal themselves. The writing on the wall suggested that their playing time was going to decrease before it ever increased.
Here's the best part, though: Young and company are far from finished building their team of the future, and are still in the running for some of college basketball's best available stars for next season.
5⭐️ Anthony Thompson, On3’s No. 5 overall recruit in the 2026 class, is down to 15 schools, per his Instagram page.

The largest question looming over Kevin Young's basketball program when he took over BYU's hoops division wasn't in relation to his coaching ability -- it's clear he has that part down. Doubters suspected he may struggle to acquire the talent necessary to reach the heights of the college basketball world.
But he's surrounded himself with talented, experienced, and accomplished coaches, an exceptional organization focused on professional-level quality above all else, and strong NIL support to further boost recruiting success.
BYU basketball is playing with the big boys now, and that's something worthy of freaking out over. You may do so now.
