New Jersey commit Ryan Wooten Jr isn't the only cornerback coming to BYU from the 2027 class, as former Fresno State commit Demichael Burks has flipped to Kalani Sitake's program, boosting the Cougars' already exceptional secondary for years to come.

Burks is an under-the-radar, diamond-in-the-rough type of recruit at corner. Standing at 6'2", and receiving no recruiting ranking from 247 Sports, Burks is a tough player to scout at a glance.
For a cornerback, he has tremendous positional length, and is a ball magnet, very much in the idiom of BYU football's defense in recent seasons with players like Therrian Alexander and Evan Johnson, both of whom will lead the charge again in 2026 in Provo.
He originally committed to Fresno State, a new entrant into the reshaped Pac-12 Conference, back in April, but BYU offered Burks a scholarship and hosted him on a visit over the weekend, leading to the nearly immediate commitment of this cornerback.
He still has some work to do on his frame, built at just 170 pounds and a bit too slight to get meaningful reps at the Big 12 level. Expect him to take a few years to break onto the scene as his physicality catches up to his ball skills.
Burks was a Pac-12 magnet, receiving interest from Fresno State, Colorado State, Texas State. Yes, those are all Pac-12 programs as of this season. What a world we live in, eh? He also received some interest from the Mountain West, and much more out of the FCS Big Sky. He's a sleeper, and won't be boosting BYU's recruiting rankings, but the Cougars believe they've found something in Burks.
He is the sixth player to commit to BYU from the class of 2027, and the second cornerback.
