Egor Demin is a professional mystery as an NBA Draft prospect in the 2025 class. With an uneven freshman season at BYU, he stuck to the game plan and took his talents to the NBA Draft Combine.
There, in front of NBA scouts, general managers, and coaches, Egor put on a show and displayed just what makes him so special as a prospect at the next level. A legit 6'9" with a wingspan of 6'10.5" while possessing legitimate point guard skills and tendencies, teams began to salivate over all the possibilities his career may hold in store.
In his freshman year, Egor separated himself from the rest with his exceptional and at times borderline visionary passing ability with size that allows him to see over the defense and follow the flow of an offense with a pseudo bird's eye view. This is his NBA skill, and this is why, despite a rocky freshman season for nearly half of his time on the floor, he's always been a lock for the first round even at his lowest point.
When he hit 16 straight 3-balls in a shooting drill, every set of eyeballs in the building was fixated on the international guard from BYU. He shoots, too?
For a long NBA career, Egor will need to improve his weaknesses and develop his strengths into unstoppable weapons with the ball in his hands. During an interview with The Ringer's J Kyle Mann (a personal favorite of mine), Egor dropped some information about his NBA inspiration.
"Another guy I've been watching a lot of is Cade Cunningham, which is a big guard, but he's not as big as Deni (Avdija). he goes into your chest -- you're not going to move him. because he's big mentally. He takes a lot of space and volume to his game."
Egor's conversation with Mann dives into what it means to mentally play big, and why that's going to be a critical aspect of his game in the pros. With BYU, this was a common criticism of his tendencies on the court -- he's the biggest guy in the backcourt, but he rarely plays like it.
Against the bruising physicality of the NBA, Egor will need to deliver strong performances against powerful and rigid defenders. Physicality will be a pivot point for this lanky guard's development. Improve, and Egor boasts legitimate All-Star potential. Fall short, and he may be playing international ball in a matter of years.
Keep drawing inspiration from the NBA, Egor. You've got the tools to make your mark on the basketball world -- seize your chance.
