It's always a welcome surprise to learn that an elite prospect has BYU basketball near the top of their board. Head coach Kevin Young, now following three consecutive recruiting classes with a five-star recruit, has turned BYU basketball into an NBA boot camp during his three-season stint -- he's batting 1.000 on that promise.
First was Egor Demin, then came AJ Dybantsa, and this season will feature Bruce Branch III. Young and his staff are far from content to settle for what they've already accomplished, as the BYU basketball revolution remains in efforts to lift the Cougars to the top of recruiting boards in the classes of 2027, 2028, and beyond.
The next name to watch is 2027 small forward DeMarcus Henry, a 5-star talent currently listed as the number-one small forward in the nation and the third-best prospect in the nation.
Ohio State’s top priority in the 2027 class just keeps rising. 📈

5⭐️ SF DeMarcus Henry is now the No. 3 overall player in the updated Rivals 150.

In a recent podcast appearance, Henry's younger sister shared his top-eight programs. As has become almost routine for this era of BYU hoops, the five-star has Kevin Young's program squarely in consideration.
"His top eight schools are Arkansas, BYU, UConn, Louisville, Ohio State, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas," she read.

Henry also received interest from other programs like Arizona State, Cincinnati, LSU, Gonzaga, UCLA, Washington, USC, Oregon, and Vanderbilt, though these programs obviously fell short in his first round of cuts.
I wrote the following on Henry as a prospect earlier this year:
"This 6'7" wing is a top-15 recruit in the class of '27, and has been on Kevin Young's radar for some time. He's improving rapidly, and could be one of the more fascinating NBA prospects for his position in a few years' time."
Since writing that article, Henry has climbed from the top 15 to the top 5 on every major recruiting site, peaking at number-3 with Rivals.
Still a long way to go in the race for Henry's recruitment, BYU makes it through to the next round.
