BYU football is picking up steam, and just in time for the Big 12 Conference schedule. Kalani Sitake and the Cougars kick off the in-conference gauntlet with a road test against Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. In the last meeting between these two sides, BYU river-walked a Colorado side that featured the Heisman trophy winner and eventually NFL-drafted quarterback in San Antonio's Alamo Bowl.
It was vicious, it was grizzly, ESPN had no idea what to talk about as another white kid from Utah ran the ball across the goal line, it was pure catharsis for BYU fans with their eyes glued to the television. I nearly shed my share of man-tears myself, in fact.
But this year's meeting between the Cougs and Buffs has a different look to it. The quarterbacks are different. Lead receivers have exited stage left. Turnover and adaptation are the game for these two programs coming off their best seasons in years, and BYU will have the distinct pleasure of opening conference play the same way they (sort of) finished it last season.
Quarterback Bear Bachmeier has entered your screen now, and you can't miss him -- donning number 47 on his jersey from the backfield. He's a powerful runner, an eyebrow-raising passer, and a signal-caller mature beyond his years. In his first taste of road football, he stepped up and delivered in a 34-13 win at East Carolina. Now, against a struggling Colorado team, the Cougars sit poised and composed in their preparation.
If you've already beared through my ramblings to this point (first of all, congratulations and bless you), you must be truly desperate for this game's broadcast information. Well, wait no longer. I'm handing it to you hot off the press.
