Number 8 BYU and number 9 Texas Tech on a collision course for Lubbock, Texas, means so much more than a good team playing against another good team. This meeting holds stakes for the Big 12 Conference as a whole. It could impact the College Football Playoff. It could make or break one of the best seasons in the history of BYU football.
But a loss for the Cougars or a loss for the Red Raiders could spell disaster for either side. For any team outside of the Big 10 or SEC, just one tick in the loss column could make the difference in appearing in the final 12-team bracket and a date with the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
