BYU basketball made shockwaves when they threw their hat in the ring for former G-Leaguer and college basketball hopeful Kyree Walker early in the recruiting cycle.

After a long silent stretch of time on the recruiting frontier, it sounds like BYU basketball is no longer tied to the former 3-star recruit. That's not entirely unsurprising, either, as the more one looks into his career path, the more it becomes obvious that Walker is pursuing a career in college basketball not as a strategic step toward the NBA, but rather as a desperate swipe at the floating debris left in the wake of his hooping journey's shipwreck.

He's drowning with nowhere else to go, and BYU's interest was fleeting. The second half of that point seems to be news to Walker, though, because he clearly still views BYU as a resume-boosting party in his recruiting process.

Walker lists BYU and West Virginia as the first two programs on his list during a recent interview, before quickly plummeting in prestige to Alabama State and Alabama A&M -- nothing wrong with those schools, but it's a severe drop in talent level and recruiting prowess from two Big 12 schools.

When Jeff Goodman was this clip, he was quick to add some clarification. Neither BYU nor West Virginia are recruiting Kyree Walker. The fact that those were the only power conference schools showing interest in the 25-year-old pro should speak volumes about how the college basketball world views his talents.

Kyree Walker's recruiting adventure has hit a severe roadblock.

He plans to announce his commitment on the 22nd, deciding based on wherever his best fit lies.

Walker was heavily recruited out of high school, but opted to bet on himself and jump into the professional pool straight away. It hasn't worked out in his favor, as he's struggled through shrinking roles at every stop, most recently playing in Mongolia.

His original list of schools that had contacted him with recruiting interest included LSU (because Will Wade clearly loves 25-year-olds on his roster, as we've learned), UCLA, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech. His short list in that interview suggest that interest has since fallen off a cliff from his original announcement of being granted a year of eligibility.
