Kentucky head coach Mark Pope is out for blood after Collin Chandler left his program to join Kevin Young and BYU basketball. To BYU fans' delight, the highest-rated LDS recruit in program history is finally returning to lace up in Provo, but Kentucky clearly isn't taking their star's departure lying down, as they're lining up a date with former BYU point guard Robert Wright III.

Per Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68, Kentucky is the favorite to secure Wright's commitment as the former BYU and Baylor point guard finally looks outside the Big 12 Conference to find a new collegiate home. He's set to take an official visit to Lexington on Monday.

Rob Wright sparked plenty of controversy when he submitted his name into the transfer portal. Many players enter the transfer portal every offseason, though not every exit will ignite outrage from their previous supporting fanbase (with a few exceptions, of course), and the same would have been the case for Wright, had he not made multiple promises to return to Provo for another season if the NBA didn't come calling.

With that in mind, it's not challenging to imagine the reaction from BYU fans on social media. Betrayal, lies, and a lack of loyalty characterized the dissenting voices as Wright opted to wade through the waters of the transfer portal rather than staying put in Kevin Young's program. And while he hasn't officially broken any promises yet, how would you feel if you girlfriend said she wouldn't leave you only to activate her Tinder account and accept dates with other eligible bachelors?

Wright was the Cougars' most reliable three-point shooter last season, and the initiator of AJ Dybantsa's offense in 2025-26. Whether he stays with BYU basketball or departs for Kentucky, he'll always be the subject of one of the greatest moments in BYU history as he capped off a major comeback win with a long-range buzzer beater in Madison Square Garden.

Jaxson Robinson and Collin Chandler left BYU for Kentucky, following Mark Pope to the blue blood program two years ago, while Richie Saunders and Dallin Hall returned to the adoration of Cougar Nation after taking their visits. Rob Wright could be leaning toward Lexington, if Goodman's reports are accurate.
