As Kansas State rallied in the Marriott Center against BYU basketball, the groans from the crowd grew louder with every made basket. Despite building a massive lead throughout the game, the Wildcats drew ever nearer. The team must have been cursed, and all of BYU's juju had officially run dry.

That was until a child claimed the spotlight and consumed an entire Cougar Tail donut before our very eyes. Yes, really! 15 inches of maple-glazed delicacy is usually enough to satisfy a fan throughout the course of a game, and eating one in its entirety as a solo act is an impressive feat on its own. But BYU needed a spark, so this kid lit a wildfire. By devouring a donut, he flipped the narrative.

BYU basketball would go on to secure the win, and "Cougar Tail Kid" faded into lore. Now, as the BYU football team prepares to do battle with the Wildcats on the gridiron, the Cougars may rely on Cougar Tail magic once again.

This year's homecoming football game is special for a handful of reasons. A top-15 foe will take the field opposite the Cougars, BYU will be sporting throwback uniforms, and--most importantly, for some--a special flavor of Cougar Tails will be available at the stadium for one night only.

To the casual baked good enjoyer, that last point may feel like an insignificant detail; nothing more than a random piece of trivia. But to those with a keen eye and a fantastic belief in the power of Cougar Tails, this spells disaster for BYU's visitors from Manhattan, Kansas.

As KSL Sports' Mitch Harper observed, BYU has played in 5 "special Cougar Tail" football games since the 2012 blackout game against Oregon State, and an obvious pattern appears in these games' results if you follow the timeline.

Alternating between wins and losses, the Cougar Tail pendulum has swung into Cosmo's favor once again for Saturday's clash with K-State. If history repeats itself (and it will if Joe Esposito's Karate Kid ballad is to be believed), BYU will win the football game when the final whistle blows.

Do you want to give the Cougars a chance to win this weekend? Then I'm calling upon Alma Mater's sons and daughters to follow the example of the legendary Cougar Tail kid. Consume a Cougar Tail, but don't do it for yourself. Do it for BYU.
