Bode Sparrow, a Kaysville, Utah, native and the highest-rated recruit in the state of Utah's class of 2027, is narrowing his recruiting search, and BYU football has officially made the cut. Slipping into the final four of his twenty-seven offers from across college football.

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Sparrow is the fourth-best athlete in the nation and the 69th-best prospect in his class. According to the PFSN recruiting composite rankings, Bode Sparrow is the fourth-best prospect in the entire class of 2027. According to me, he's a can't-miss prospect for a BYU football program itching to get a stranglehold on the Beehive State's football scene with the departure of Kyle Whittingham from the University of Utah.

You decide which of those authorities are most significant.

In Whittingham's place is a formidable successor, however, and the Utes have found their way onto Sparrow's final four schools as well. Morgan Scalley hopes to transition into the captain's seat with as few snags as possible, and picking up the best player in the state would be a strong signal that the Utes haven't skipped a beat without Whittingham.

Sparrow will visit BYU last of his four trips on June 19th, after Bode takes a trip to Oklahoma on May 29th, Oregon on June 5th, and Utah on June 12th. The opportunity for BYU to make a strong final impression is there, as they'll have the final word before he locks in on a final decision.

Sparrow, a 6'2" athlete with elite physical and athletic tools, and that was on full display on both sides of the ball with the Davis Darts. As a wide receiver, he tallied over 3,000 receiving yards, but he's projected to have a higher ceiling as a safety, where he snagged 16 picks in 36 appearances to this point.

Not just a ball hawk (though he is among the best in high school football at baiting quarterbacks into making bad decisions through the air), Sparrow is tough and hits with intention when given a chance at the ball carrier.

Similar to the likes of former Colorado star Travis Hunter, Sparrow could thrive as either a receiver or a cornerback, but would be better-suited sticking to the defensive end where his skill set shines most. For a BYU defense that prides itself on forcing turnovers and birthing chaos for opposing quarterbacks, Sparrow would be a natural fit under Kelly Poppinga's methodology.

Bode Sparrow was offered by programs like Miami, Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington, and more. The Cougars are fortunate to be in the position they are with Sparrow, and hope to seal the deal with his official visit in June.
