The 2025 NFL season has ended, so all eyes now turn to free agency.
NFL free agency starts on March 11th, giving teams opportunities to upgrade their rosters and granting players the flexibility to sign with the right team. This past season 19 former BYU players spent the season on NFL rosters, and more than a few of them are hitting free agency. Here are the Top 5 free agents who once called Provo home:
Tyler Allgeier, running back
2025 stats: 17 Gs, 143 carries, 514 yards (3.6 YPC), 8 TDs; 14 receptions, 96 yards
Career stats: 67 Gs, 676 carries, 2,876 yards (4.3 YPC), 18 TDs; 61 receptions, 516 yards, 2 TDs
Hallelujah! Tyler Allgeier is finally free of the Atlanta Falcons!
The Falcons selected Allgeier in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In his rookie season he rushed for a franchise rookie record 1,035 yards while averaging a fantastic 4.9 yards per carry. So what did the Falcons do in the 2023 draft? They selected fellow running back Bijan Robinson in the first round and force-fed him carries while Tyler Allgeier was relegated to ramming the ball up the middle on 3rd-and-2 several times a game.
Mark my words: A smart contender will sign Tyler Allgeier in 2026 and he'll rush for over 1,200 yards and more than 4.5 yards per carry. Bookmark it .
Khyiris Tonga, defensive tackle
2025 stats: 14 Gs, 24 tackles
Career stats: 67 Gs, 113 tackles, 0.5 sacks
As I've previously written, no former BYU player had a more impactful 2025 campaign than Khyiris Tonga. He was a perfect fit on a stout New England Patriots defense that made the Super Bowl. It makes too much sense for both parties for Tonga to remain in New England, and I'm anticipating he'll sign a solid, multi-year contract with the Pats.

Kyle Van Noy, outside linebacker
2025 stats: 15 Gs, 20 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 17 pressures
Career stats: 173 Gs, 561 tackles, 57.0 sacks, 74 tackles, 146 pressures
Kyle Van Noy has had one of the best NFL careers of any former BYU Cougar in the NFL. He has been an effective, impactful player no matter where he has played and has two Super Bowl rings and a Pro Bowl nod to prove it.
That said, his 2025 campaign was a big step back from his 2024 Pro Bowl season. The Ravens have fired their head coach and are looking to rebuild. As a soon-to-be 35-year-old free agent, it may not be in the cards for KVN to return for a fourth season in Baltimore. He still has gas in his tank, can still get to the quarterback, and has the veteran leadership contending teams are looking for. Don't be surprised to see a contender bring him in on a low-risk, high-upside one-year deal.

Zach Wilson, quarterback
2025 stats: 4 Gs, 6-of-11 passing, 32 yards
Career stats: 38 Gs, 572-of-1,004 passing (57%), 6,325 yards, 23 TD, 25 INT
The No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft had his early career derailed by being thrown into the dysfunction that is the New York Jets. If Sam Darnold's redemption tour taught us anything this year it's that young Jets castoff quarterbacks can still go on to start and win Super Bowls.
That's the hope for Zach Wilson, who is still just 26 years old. He's a capable backup with starter upside. If teams need to be reminded about the necessity of having a quality backup QB, look no farther than the Denver Broncos after they lost Bo Nix in the playoffs.
It's doubtful that Zach will land a Week 1 starter's role anywhere in 2026, but if he plays his cards right he can join a team where he could feasibly be called upon to start at some point in the year. If he can string together a few strong starts in 2026, it would change the trajectory of his stalled career.

Taysom Hill, football player
2025 stats: 13 Gs, 114 rushing yards, 91 receiving yards, 57 passing yards, 2 total TDs
Career stats: 118 Gs, 2,551 rushing yards, 1,034 receiving yards, 2,426 passing yards, 54 total TDs
While it looks like Taysom's storied career might be over given his age, injury history, and lack of production in 2025, you can never count this guy out. Yes, he's 35 and yes, he averaged just 2.2 yards per carry this past season, but Taysom's career has been one of defying the odds over and over again. If any player his age can still find a way to make a roster and contribute, it's Taysom Hill.
Taysom's versatile, unmatched career became what it was because of his time with coach Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints. With Payton now at the helm in Denver, perhaps the two reunite in the Mile High City next year. Or Taysom could simply call it a career and move on to the next phase of life.
