Jake Retzlaff, the BYU football quarterback formerly known as BYJew, is making his case for an NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks, as he inked a deal with the 12s shortly after going undrafted in the NFL Draft.

Jake Retzlaff's career at BYU was an erratic string of high highs and low lows. At his best, the Cougars' gunslinger thrived in Aaron Roderick's high-powered offense by tossing pin-point darts downfield at an alarming rate for opposing defenses. On the back of Retzlaff, a BYU football team predicted to finish near the bottom of the Big 12 standings was a tiebreaker away from the conference championship game, and dominated Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter as the Colorado Buffaloes proved no match for the Cougars' machine.

He was an excellent ambassador for the university and athletic programs, outspoken about his religious beliefs and how they were nurtured despite attending a private school of a different theology.

But when he was accused of sexual misconduct and later confirmed to be in violation of the university's strict honor code, the media circus and his eventual suspension pushed him to pursue a new destination for his final year of eligibility. He was never charged for the accusations, but the sexual event did take place. At Tulane, senior Jake Retzlaff won the starting job and lifted the G5 representative Green Wave into the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Still on good terms with the university, Retzlaff returned to Provo to throw for Chase Roberts at BYU Pro Day. Now signing an undrafted free agent deal with the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks, this former BYU quarterback has a chance to make his case for a roster spot in the NFL.

He's the third BYU QB to be signed by Seattle in recent memory, with Jaren Hall filling a spot on the team's practice squad after fizzling out in Minnesota, and Jake Heaps (yeah, that's right, remember him?) joining the Seahawks after transferring to Kansas and Miami before the modern age of NIL and the portal. These days, Heaps is the Director and Head QB Coach of the Russell Wilson Quarterback Academy.

Retzlaff still has an uphill battle ahead of himself to make the Seahawks' final 53-man roster, but after its all been said and done, BYU football is still proud to claim Jake Retzlaff as a member of the family. Go make an impression, Jake!
