Do you remember when the Baylor Bears visited Provo this past January? As BYU struggled to pull away in the final moments, Baylor's freshman point guard, Rob Wright III personally scored the Bears' final 14 points in the final 5 minutes of play to force overtime.

Of course, VJ Edgecombe dominated the headlines during an otherwise lackluster season in Waco, but those following the Scott Drew's program knew that something special lied in their excellent freshman floor general.

When Wright hit the transfer portal on Monday, he instantly became one of the most highly sought-after players on the market.

And BYU basketball quickly emerged as the top contender to secure the sophomore's talents.

In fact, recent rumors suggest that Wright will don the royal blue of BYU with Kevin Young, AJ Dybantsa, and the Cougars for the 2025-26 season.

Wright was an All-Big 12 honorable mention in his opening season, and averaged 11.5 points and 4.2 dimes while hitting 35.2% of his 3-point attempts. Though undersized, standing at -- shall we say a generous 6'1" -- Wright overcame his slight stature by cementing himself as one of the steadier ball handlers in the Big 12 Conference.

And his arrival would fill in a suddenly wide-open backcourt for the Cougars with the departures of Egor Demin, Dallin Hall, and Elijah Crawford. Just in time to relieve BYU basketball's admittedly few anxieties in recent months.

Wright would be another player with pro upside possibly joining this BYU basketball program. Thanks to NIL backing and an all-in emphasis on preparing young players for the highest level of competition, BYU is a serious contender for next season.
