March Madness is upon us. Fight it, resist it, and avoid it all you like, but there is no escaping the wildest, most unpredictable season of sport the world has ever known. And though the 68-team NCAA Tournament field will get the largest share of attention this year, conference tournament season has already begun.
And it is good.
We've already seen buzzer-beaters, half-court heaves, upsets, and cinderella moments from across the wide world of college basketball, and now the heavyweights are stepping into the ring.
Enter: the Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship. A 16-team slobber-knocker that will pit some of the deepest, fiercest, and most talented teams the sport has to offer against one another in a single-elimination, winner-takes-all tournament. On the line is a chance for the league's automatic bid into the final tournament, an opportunity to improve your value and spot in the bracket, and put an exclamation point on your season.
Only one team will win, and in a field that boasts names like Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Arizona, Texas Tech, and on and on and on, the eyes of the nation will be glued to their televisions, phones, and/or, friend's YouTube TV subscription for a chance to witness the highest-level competitors battle for the crown.

A truly national conference now, the Big 12 spans from Orlando, Florida, to Salt Lake City, Utah. And though some recent additions to the league would prefer a stay in Las Vegas -- cough, Utah cough -- the league will continue to congregate in Kansas City, Missouri, a central location for the league's best to stretch for glory.
The glass court will be animated and distracting, but the hoops will be pure.
