For those of you who still use physical calendars -- likely 40 years or older -- it's time to whip out your Sharpie markers and fill in the most important date on the BYU football recruiting schedule. I'll give you a minute to tear your monthly flip book off the wall.

Ryder Lyons, a 5-star quarterback and BYU football's top recruiting priority since he opened himself to the collegiate market, has officially announced the date of his decision. On June 24th, the top uncommitted quarterback in the 2026 pool will declare.

The race has been whittled down to three predominant schools, from what can be gathered: USC, Oregon, and BYU.

The Trojans were an early favorite to secure Ryder's talents, but recent activity has shifted the narrative slightly to indicate that not all may be as cut-and-dry as Southern California would like you to think. Canceling his official visit to Los Angeles was a fascinating development for a player who's was projected to join the Trojans as recently as a few days ago, according to experts on 247 Sports.

Now, BYU is building momentum as the likely landing spot for this top-rated QB. Experts have split 50/50 on the 247 recruiting site between the Cougars and the Trojans, with Kalani Sitake and Lincoln Riley doing anything in their power to lure the talented prospect to their respective barracks.

For BYU, uncertainty at the quarterback position has been a hot topic since the sexual assault allegations set against current starter, Jake Retzlaff. With Bear Bachmeier, a 4-star freshman stud in the depth chart, I often consider why the Cougars insist on another highly sought-after QB when they already hold one on their roster.

Complaining about such abundance is like stressing because someone poured sugar on your bowl of Frosted Flakes. Stop crying because someone gave you more of a good thing, and just enjoy your breakfast.

Ryder's decision could drastically alter the trajectory of BYU football for years to come, and we'd all love to see his career donning the royal blue.
