BYU basketball is on a five-game winning streak. You read that correctly, the Cougars are on a heater and just in time for the postseason.
But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, Kevin Young and his BYU basketball program still stand with three more games impeding their progress to the Big 12 Conference tournament at the end of the season. Every conference member will compete for the Big 12 crown, but the potential for a higher seed (and a much more favorable matchup) necessitates the Cougars keep their heads down and drive through the remaining matchups.
Up next on the road map? A grudge match with a hungry West Virginia team. A Mountaineer side whose postseason fate has yet to be determined, as they're still on the bubble for March Madness consideration.
And do you know what would really boost the Mountaineers' chances of seeing the light of March? A road win against a top 25 opponent. The 25th-ranked Cougars will defend home court against a team with much more at stake -- the Marriott Center's advantage can only take them so far. Win against the Mountaineers, and BYU cements their position in March. Lose, and any lingering doubts may seep into the foundations' cracks.
